Being drunk does not MAKE you say something you are not thinking, and his being drunk in a public place, showed an utterly inacceptable lack of good judgement, which was part of the problem, not to mention his shockingly horrific comments. It was both of these that led to his immediate firing by the powers that be at LVMH. Even Karl Lagerfeld quickly condemned John's shocking words and actions, saying that they were deplorable, commenting that someone as high profile as he, has an obligation to always keep that in mind. It comes with the territory of being famous and being a designer whose name is attached to a revered fashion house.

Fact is- he was SWIFTLY fired by the powers at be at LMVH- they immediately saw this as something that had to be properly addressed. And rightly so. (FYI, Karl Lagerfeld immediately made a comment after hearing the accusations made against Galliano, not only condemning his words and actions, but his deplorable and shocking lack of good judgement, saying that someone in a position like his, must be very careful when it comes to their public persona. They have an obligation that comes with their fame and position. Right on Karl!)
