I read most of your article, not having seen, or quite frankly having any interest in the Golden Globes. What I love about your viewpoint is its razor sharp clarity of vision, implicitly framing the GG scene in the Framework of the cultural transition that we are experiencing at every level.

To quote Eliot: "What might have been and what has been point to one end, which is always present." It is in your illumination of both that you shine. My impression of the Golden Globes deduced from your report is that the once exclusive/idealized world of entertainment/ fashion/ celebrity has been obliterated by the rise Youtube celebrity. The 'audience' is just as entranced by a singing homeless alcoholic as it is by a Golden Globe winner.

The true cultural implication of Andy Warhol's future vision: "famous for 15 minutes", has become the jaded norm–everything gets a very brief Kodak moment, and then it is justly forgotten. The meaning of anything in the media no longer carries the valence of "Truth" or "Beauty". News is entertainment (Sarah Palin's latest blog), disaster is boring (Is Haiti still making the news?) and the tragedy of mental illness is a political gang-bang (the Arizona event).

Is this the way the world ends? :"not with a bang but a whimper"
not if we have anything to say about it.
