“Ring” in the New Year

Rings are never “in or out” but like everything else, they have their moment in fashion’s proverbial sun. And that moment is now, thanks in large part to Gucci’s Alessandro Michele. He has accessorized his models’ fingers with multiple rings in every collection he has shown since becoming creative director back in February 2015.

During the course of his freshman outing, (a landmark fall/winter 2015 menswear collection  shown in Milan), he unveiled his unapologetic-ally vintage inspired, hippie, nerdy, intellectual, and gender bending vision for the legendary brand. Among his soon to be signatures were the use of chiffon pussycat bow blouses, spectacles, fur lined horse bit mules, and rings, which, for the record, he wears as well.

However you decide to wear them, and regardless of how many you wear, my philosophy is generally, Go Big or Go Home. It matters not if they’re real bijoux or costume jewelry. Case in point, Ralph Rucci’s Spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection. The crystal rings he put on the fingers of each model were not really rings at all, but adhesive strips covered with sequins and stones. The effect was cool, edgy, and modern.

By the way, rings are not only a statement making accessory; they give you a perfect excuse to talk (or gesture) with your hands. And they are an ultra-stylish way to give someone (such as Ted Cruz) the finger. Just saying.
