The 59th Annual Southampton Hospital Summer Party was held on Saturday August 5, 2017 at the corner of Wickapogue and Old Town Road with cocktails beginning at 6:30 PM. The evening was chaired by Bill Ford, Tom Kirdahy, Marigay McKee, Terrence McNally and Douglas Elliman Real Estate with tickets starting at $500.

Southampton Hospital is recognized by the NYS Department of Health as a provisional Level 3 adult trauma center, the first one on Long Island’s East End, providing care to the most critically injured patients and treating more than 25,000 people annually. This year the attendance was remarkable with more than 750 Hamptonites showing their appreciation for the Hospital

The big news of the night was the announcement that after nearly a decade of discussion and review Southampton Hospital had officially become part of the Stony Brook Medicine health care system this past Tuesday – allowing it to access the significant resources of the much larger Stony Brook.

Bob Chaloner, CEO of Southampton Hospital was extremely excited at the prospect of being able to maintain the personal touch of a small town community hospital while having entree to the advanced technology of the colossal Stony Brook.

The collaboration includes a new cardiac catheterization laboratory, part of the Audrey and Martin Gruss Heart and Stroke Center and the new Phillips Family Cancer Center, which will make top-level cancer care more readily available to East End residents.

Chaloner, who has been a remarkable CEO for ten years, said the dinner took eleven months to plan; and judging by the magnanimous amount of buffet food and dessert and the lavish decor that was no surprise. Lawrence Scott, who donated $100,000 worth of centerpieces and landscaping had been on site for two days preparing for this exciting evening.

Scott is a very busy man remarking that he was designing more than 75 events this summer and working non-stop on lavish personal parties and weddings. The evening raised more than $1.5 million and had 100 more attendees than last year and yet there were some guests whose presence was missed.

Chuck Scarborough, who is the usual emcee, did not attend this year. While “Good Day” television host Greg Kelly replaced him it just wasn’t the same.  Moreover, Georgina Bloomberg who was honorary chair was an absentee honoree.

However, there was still an electricity in the air with all the prominent guests in attendance and the energetic band “The Elements” riling up the lively crowd. There was also a silent auction held where guests bid on items such as dinner parties, beauty sessions and furniture with some attaining items for less than their worth-an unfortunate occurrence at a charity auction.

At the conclusion of the evening, guests were treated to an ice cream truck and a goody bag which contained cookies, books and some body lotion – a saccharine ending to a wonderful summer evening.
