Lady Gaga in Marc Jacobs

If it seems like this is the week of non-stop action, well that’s because it is! When you add the Grammys to Fashion Week albeit on the opposite coast, things can get kind of hairy. This is literally what happened last night since HAIR was the real story at the music awards show, at times almost upstaging the fashion. Lady Gaga was a Ziggy Stardust redhead, previously blonde Meghan Trainor also sported flame colored locks, Zendaya debuted a blonde mullet with her simple tuxedo suit, Taylor Swift a blunt bob with bangs and a bare tummy, while Adele rocked an edgy longer bob with black sequins. Even the men sprouted new or different colored hair including facial peach fuzz (you need a shave Justin Bieber) or decided to have more fun as a blond a la Pharrell.

Kacey Musgraves in Armani Prive

There were quite a few interesting and appealing outfit choices on the red carpet last night however since my motto for the Grammys is “Go Big or Go Bold,” plus this dress incorporates the hair theme, I’m giving my best dressed award to Best Country Nominee Kacey Musgraves in Armani Prive. This reminds me of a pinata or a muppet, both in a good way though! This could have gone costume-y but she reins it in by not over accessorizing and by rocking a sleek pony updo. I absolutely love this look and wish that I could touch the dress and see it in person.

Selena and Taylor

I also like Selena Gomez in her blue sequin with cut-out sides Calvin Klein. Her “date” Taylor Swift got the colorful memo and while I’m not a huge fan of her look, there’s no question that she totally rocks it with the colorful jeweled choker and her amazing body. Is it possible that the “blunt” bob emboldened her to give the best acceptance speech ever in which she threw some desperately needed shade in a “West-ward” direction!

Janelle Monae in Jean Paul Gaultier

In my “So Bad, It’s Good” category are Janelle Monae who has taken her usual graphic black and white palette out of her usual comfort-zone-tuxedo uniform with an interesting silhouette thanks to Jean Paul Gaultier. Love the hat too!

Bonnie McKee

I totally adore Bonnie McKee in a silver white sparkly suit. She does the pink hair to perfection here and keeps the interesting locks theme going. So Grammy-licious!

On a sad note, Rihanna was unable to perform a song from her new album “ANTI” or attend the Grammys at the last minute due to throat issues–what a shame since we always look to her for style inspo. I was anticipating her killing it but instead I think the schedule of showing her Puma collection at NYFW and then trying to sing at the Grammys may be killing her. I hate to say this but Rihanna typically doesn’t have good luck around this time if you remember the whole Chris Brown situation which happened on the eve of the Grammys.

Ciara

What I really could have done without was Ciara’s sad looking “almost” frock in a ditsy print. I’m aware that the Grammys is the traditional “flash as much flesh as you can” occasion but being a centimeter away from a wardrobe malfunction (top and bottom) is so boring already! Besides, the hairlessness required for this to happen is not on theme!
