The Mercury News reports organizers of the ‘Webby Awards’ have canceled their annual San Francisco event after a six-year run. The “Oscars of the Internet” as the organizers like to so humbly call themselves still will be announced June 5 via the web. But show organizers said they have been hit by a number of troubles, including the lousy economy, and now, travel fears related to war and SARS.
The reporter for The Mercury News went on to to say “that during the tech boom, the event created so much buzz that New York tried to steal it from San Francisco. But more recently, dot-bomb humor became its hallmark.”
All we can say is good riddance.
