Numerous guests caught my eye at the recent Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon at the Central Park Conservancy. One can attract attention in many ways, but one woman stands out for all the right reasons. In my opinion, Darice Fadeyi outshined almost everyone else. You can say she “knocked it out of the park.”
Darice Fadeyi is beautiful, tall, and willowy. Her outfit is thoughtfully curated, and the hat is striking. Darice created a stunning, perfectly proportioned composition. She looked comfortable, elegant, relaxed, and hip, and not in the least bit clownish, which is more than I can say about many.
I instantaneously recognized her Alaia laser cut leather corset belt, Christopher John Rogers multi-striped wide-legged pants, iconic Gabriela Hearst Diana bag, and Esenshel hat. I later learned the white shirt dress was Dries Van Noten.

I used my picture of Darice as the lead shot in my article about the event. I initially assumed that Darice was somehow involved in fashion, only to discover that she’s a board-certified dermatologist with more than 20 years of clinical experience in private practice. She graduated from Princeton with high honors and received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. I was intrigued.
Subsequent images I found of Darice supported my initial impression that she is a woman with a strong sense of self and a highly intuitive fashion sense. I wanted to know more. Through emails and phone calls, I learned that Dr. Fadeyi and her husband Jason (a physician by training who heads up his management consulting firm) have four children aged 8 – 21, all gifted and talented in their way.
Darice loves fashion but has little time to spend on style and almost exclusively shops online. Matches Fashion and Net-A-Porter are her favorite websites for formal wear and tailoring.

But for every day, Darice likes to shop emerging designers from abroad. “Vasquiat in Spain has a strong edit of streetwear, but honestly, the best source is your closet; there’s no need to shop most of the time,” opines Darice, who recycles dresses from 10 years ago. Her treasured Miu Miu moto boots are 15 years old.
Dr. Fadeyi once worked with a stylist who took her in “the wrong direction,” so she never did it again. She knows what works and is “relentless” about fit, offering that Lux Tailors, located at 20 East 68th Street, are “magicians.” Darice knows her body type. “I’m a bit boyish in the curves department with narrow hips, so I tend to accentuate the waist.”

Darice’s evening look is feminine and fluid, often colorful or patterned. Favored labels are Carolina Herrera, Christopher John Rogers, Valentino, and Rosie Assoulin, among others. By contrast, Dr. Fadeyi’s daytime look (when not wearing a white medical coat at work) is a touch boyish, streetwise, and practical, played out in neutral shades.
Favorite fashion labels include Alaia for their laser-cut leathers and Gabriela Hearst’s beautiful leather dresses. Hats make Darice feel confident. She wears them frequently, from little newsboy caps in the winter to various straw hats with wide brims to protect her face from the sun.

In addition to Esenshel Hats, Darice is a fan of Nick Fouquet and Gema Galdón, who has a shop in Barcelona. Gabon is a true artist who makes beautiful hats using different materials. Gema designed a pillbox hat worn by Andre Leon Talley that was recently auctioned off at Christie’s.
While Darice does not have a specific fashion information source, she loves to pick up a magazine now and again. AS IF is one of her favorites, a large-format biannual magazine focusing on the collaboration of art, fashion, design, architecture, and music.

Art consultant Kim Heirston serves as Fine Art Editor. Former supermodel Veronica Webb is the Beauty Editor. “I guess the best source for fashion info is life itself, especially here in New York or the cities I visit like Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, and London. Her children are fluent in Spanish and French. Christian, their oldest son attends the prestigious Durham University in London.

When not traveling abroad, Darice and her family divide their time between an upper east side townhouse and a home in Southampton. The Washington D.C.-born physician graduated from Princeton with high honors in architecture but, at the end of her senior year, decided she wanted to go to medical school.

“Whatever I do and recommend to my patients is always going to be subtle, and I always want it to look like you, and I always want it to look like my work” she says. Dr. Fadeyi performs various cosmetic procedures with a strong focus on soft tissue fillers (Restylane, Juvederm, RHA) and neuromodulators (Dysport, Xeomin, Botox).

She utilizes these products for a variety of indications. For example, Botox can be used for sweating, to help with rosacea, and to relax the neck muscles so you don’t have those vertical bands.
Hair restoration is a big part of Darice’s practice. She is not a hair transplant surgeon but uses Platelet Rich Plasma and medical treatments in combination to treat hair loss. Indeed, the beautiful 53-year-old is a walking advertisement for her practice. What products does Darice use for her daily regimen? “Nothing harsh .” If she wears a full makeup look, Darice does two cleansing routines. Using a moisturizing cleanser from Abilene to emulsify the makeup, she follows it up with Cetaphil’s Extra Gentle Cleanser, using water to remove the rest.
