Curb link chains add a bit of an edge to everything; even the simplest or most elegant of pieces. They are nothing new. But they ARE being used in new and fresh ways.
Daniel Lee, the 32-year-old designer who has worked under the helm of Phoebe Philo, was named as creative director of Bottega Veneta last year. He was immediately touted as Ms. Philo’s ‘heir apparent’. While that remains to be seen, Daniel’s debut for Bottega Veneta’s fall 2019 collection in Milan this past February certainly got off to a good start.

Tom Ford is taken with bold metal chains. They figured prominently in the newly installed CFDA Chairman’s fall 2019 collection. Among other things, Tom mixed statement making gold, silver and ruthenium chains on his handbags, and varied their size, $3290. More info/purchase

At Matthew Williams’ spring 2020 runway show for Alyx, which was presented in Paris in June, silver chains were a recurrent motif. While the overall effect could have looked over done, it did not because the chains were small yet substantial and the clothing was tailored and minimal.

Silver chain chokers, long necklaces and small structured bags with silver chain straps accessorized the abbreviated black dresses. They also appeared on the straps of Matthew’s square toed Mary Jane pumps.
