Editorial: What Next for Cathy Horyn?

Anyone want to bet we have not heard the last of Cathy Horyn? She left The New York Times to take care of her “partner” – Arthur Ortenberg  the 87 year old ex husband of Liz Claiborne who passed away yesterday. My bet, she will start her own site and leverage her personal “brand recognition” to develop an independent fashion/lifestyle site of considerable influence. Or, she might quit covering fashion altogether, and create a new platform with a  broader social agenda. I always said her writing was really too good for just reporting on  the mostly banal subject of fashion.

Then again, maybe a book is in the offering? We hear she is going to write a book about the history of fashion Coverage at the New York Times. I would love to be the fly on the wall when she talks to Bernadine Morris, who was for 30 years the senior fashion writer of The New York Times and the position Cathy took over. What Bernadine thinks of Cathy’s fashion sense would fill an entire chapter (which we will never read about!). Bernadine was for 5 years a contributor to lookonline.com and she was never shy about expressing her opinion.
