Sex & the Silly

As has been widely reported, Rihanna will buck the trend, “unfollowing” designers Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Thom Browne and Monique Lhuiller, all decamping their shows to Paris. Instead, the Bad Girl will “return to the scene of the crime” bringing  her Fenty Puma Spring 2018 show back to NYFW this September. Here in the city where she held her debut show of Fall 2016, expect another take on her streetwear/athleticwear/lingerie vibe in yet another dazzling endroit. Past shows were at event space 23 Wall Street, the Bibliotheque Nationale de France (otherwise known as the library), and most recently at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild. A location for NYFW has not yet been announced so I’ve got a great suggestion — Rih, if you’re reading this, I know you’d say “oui” to House of Yes. This Bushwick club landed on my radar via the TV Land show “Younger” which films on location in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Best of all, no need to go anywhere else for the after-party — this place — as SNL’s Stefon would say “has everything.”

Hilary Duff in character on TV Land’s Younger

The show which I’ve previously written about, is now in its fourth season. Apparently the premise of 40-year-old Liza (Sutton Foster) posing as a 26 year-old at a book publishing firm where she is co-founder with Kelsey (Hilary Duff), of the “Millennial” Imprint, has legs to have gone the distance. Producer Darren Star, brings just enough “Sex and the City” drama while Patricia Field’s wardrobe flair and an amazing cast create an elevated but always interesting take on Big Apple life.

Last week’s episode featured the gang at House of Yes, a “funky venue featuring dance, circus, theater and cabaret performances in a former ice warehouse.” It was featured in full-on Cirque du Soleil/dominatrix bar mode — Kelsey takes her date to the “spanking room,” even grabbing the whip herself, as he’s been quite “naughty.” Of course, she’s wearing something short, tight, black and shiny, with elbow length gauntlets — in other words, something Rihanna relatable.

The House of Yes Starring Freddie Prinze, Jr., Parker Posey, Josh Hamilton

Sharing a title is the 1997 cult indie film “The House of Yes,” starring Parker Posey, Josh Hamilton, Tori Spelling, Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Genevieve Bujold. If you like a story involving Thanksgiving, twin incest, insanity, a creepy mansion in a storm a la “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and a historical/political/fashion bent (Posey is Jackie O, dressing the part), here you go. The Pascal family obviously defines dysfunction as Spelling playing Hamilton’s newly minted fiance learns — she is their first guest ever! Judging from the movie trailer, Mrs. Pascal (Bujold) apparently gets the best lines as she deadpans, “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go baste the turkey and hide the kitchen knives.”

Snctm Party

Meanwhile L.A. has come to the Hamptons with Snctm, an “elite erotic club” counting Gwyneth Paltrow and Bill Maher as clients. Look out for a “Masquerade” party (think “Eyes Wide Shut”) in an opulent Hamptons residence on August 5th with a select guest list. “The location — and the identity of the owner of the property — is being kept a strict secret until the last minute, when those who successfully applied will be notified, we’re told. Organizers say they usually get over 1,000 applicants on their website for just 100 places at a party,” according to Page Six. The Post was apparently allowed to attend a recent NYC party billed as “a night of erotic freedom” (no doubt for research purposes only) lol, while Showtime is currently filming a reality show about Snctm with eight episodes already in the can.

Club owner Damon Lawner says members include the creme de la creme of Hollywood, Wall Street, CEO’s, models and top lawyers — what could possibly go wrong there? As for the dress code (or the Un-dress code): “Guests have to be masked when they enter the party; men wear tuxedos and women wear elegant gowns or lingerie; but after midnight, masks and other items of clothing fall off. The first few hours are about mystique and intrigue. This is not a sex party — it is erotic theater. We have performances. Some just watch while others want to indulge.”

Who was that masked man or woman? After this event we may find out what really goes on after the sun goes down behind those high hedges lining some of the East End’s most exclusive beach property.
