Betty and Veronica by Rachel Antonoff

Designer Rachel Antonoff’s fashion presentations have always been more performance art than fashion show. Past seasons have seen the recreation of a high school dance, complete with a live band and a slumber party. She presented her Betty and Veronica by Rachel Antonoff collection in the style of a living comic book on Tuesday evening at Manhattan’s Root Studios. Models created comic book pages on stage with speech bubbles above their heads telling the story of some high school gossip.

Antonoff’s fall collection is inspired by the legendary Archie comic book characters. The designer updates their style for 2016 with pieces that include rompers, baby tees and sweater dresses as well as nostalgic items like letterman jackets.

The Betty and Veronica collection is a partnership between Antonoff and Archie Comics. They approached her to create the line to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the Archie series. Antonoff has been a fan of the comics since she was a child.

Famous faces in the presentation included actress Alia Shawkat of the TV series, Arrested Development and model Barbie Knox.
