Vicky Tiel’s Paris Journal: Where to Eat During Couture Fashion Week

Fruit pastry at Boulangerie de la Marais

Paris is all about two things food and more food, and possibly fashion and love? It’s now Paris couture week. For ladies and for those of you who want to eat and be seen this week, I have my “Vicky’s Choice” of where to eat and where to hang for young and old. All you need is love and lots of Euros.

When I arrive in Paris I immediately go to Boulangerie de la Marais on Rue de la Verrerie Paris 4 in the Marais and get my favorite fruit pastry and a cappuccino and I sit outside in the small park bench opposite the bakery and watch the Parisians walk by and get adjusted to being home in France.

Gael Green, Guy Savoy, & YanouCollart

In the early seventies, I hired Yanou Collart to do my press, as she was the top food press agent in town and I figured I would always eat well. 50 years later we are still friends and here is her list of the top places to eat “gourmet” today. Her favorite chef is Guy Savoy and here we are with food writer Gael Green at his restaurant.

Septime

The number one gourmet restaurant today in Paris is Septime, 80 Rue de Charonne Paris 11. It is the hardest restaurant to get into. If you want to walk the hippest street in town to the Cafe des Artists this is it, the Rue de Charonne. The top artist and designer ateliers are off in the passages.

Cafe La Palette

My favorite cafe on Thursday night is La Palette on Rue de Seine. On Thursdays, the entire neighborhood has art gallery openings until 9 pm. Then we all meet up at La Palette and hang with the artists. It’s also the number one place in town to find new friends or even an art-loving new husband.

Here is the definitive list of my favorite places to eat in 2020:

For VIEWS… Brasserie George on top of the Centre Pompidou Museum
Jules Verne on top of the Eiffel Tower.

For WINE…. Au Crus de Bourgogne 3 Rue Bachaumont Paris 2

Les Climats

For FOOD & WINE … Les Climats 41 Rue de Lille Paris 7 near Musee D’Orsay is foodie heaven with the best new chef, Emmanuelle Kouri is serving morailles, truffles, venison and the best of the best rare treats for gourmets.

For FISH … Le Duc 243 Blvd Raspail, Paris 14 always Him, Jean Minchelli, my chef, since 1967. Photo of Jean Minnelli in 1975 when he had his female clients arriving nude with furs. Elga Anderson Gimbel is the blond, Yanou Collart far right and I’m in the Fox Tail poncho, the one I wore when I fell out of the helicopter and Elizabeth Taylor pulled me back in by a foxtail that was well sewn in by Italian haute couture.

For top BRASSERIE … Oui Mon Générale …14 Rue de Générale Bertrand Paris 7

For HOTEL CHIC DINING… Le Cinq at Hotel Georges V .

For PEOPLE WATCHING ….La Societe, 4 Place St Germain de Près Paris 6

For PIZZA…Lou Lou, 107 Rue de Rivoli Paris 1 at Musee des Arts Décoratif
